India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned an attack on a commercial vessel flying a Panama flag in the Strait of Hormuz and said that 12 crew members were injured, 11 of whom are Indian citizens.

Based on the ministry’s statement, the vessel was targeted by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz near the coasts of Oman. Of the ship’s 19 crew members, 17 are Indian.

The injured were evacuated with the help of Omani officials and are being treated at the port of Khasab, Oman.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India said that the continuation of attacks on shipping in this region is a “deep concern” for the country and called for an end to the targeting of commercial shipping and for ensuring safe navigation in international waterways.
