In a report, Iran’s ILNA news agency, referring to the gap between wages and the cost of living, wrote that a working-class family needs about 90 million tomans in monthly income to cover the minimum cost of living, while the wages of many workers do not even reach half of that figure.

ILNA wrote that the minimum wage for workers, with all benefits included, is less than 25 million tomans, and it has fallen far behind price increases. The news agency added that many workers and retirees even face serious problems in meeting basic needs, including food.

Fromamers Tufiqi, the former head of the Wage Committee of the Supreme Council of Islamic Labor Councils, told ILNA that the wage of a married worker with one child, if all benefits are paid, is 24 million and 900 thousand tomans. He added that the ability of this wage to cover living costs has dropped from 58.24 percent at the beginning of the year to 27.58 percent at the end of Tir, and that it now covers only the cost of about eight days of living.
