Houthi forces in Yemen announced that on Saturday they targeted “sensitive” sites in Riyadh with missiles and drones. Hours earlier, flames and a large column of smoke were seen near the main airport of the city.

Reuters images show a large column of black smoke in the area of the airport highway and the main building of the terminal.

A coalition led by Saudi Arabia said it destroyed the missile air defenses that the Houthis had fired toward Riyadh early on Saturday.

This is the first alleged attack by the Houthis on Riyadh since the fighting intensified in July. The Houthis did not say what targets they hit in Riyadh, but said they also targeted facilities of Aramco in the port of Yanbu.
