🔻Hosting the 2032 Olympics on Australia’s Fitzroy River has increased concerns about protecting the 500 crocodiles that live in this river.

The Fitzroy River is expected to be the venue for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics’ rowing and canoeing events.

The river is already used for training and competitions, and environmental sustainability assessments have been carried out there.

While concerns have been raised about protecting the crocodiles and the possibility of them attacking humans, the local government of Queensland says that no attacks have been recorded in the “records of the past forty years.”

These reptiles, which can reach sizes of up to four meters, can be seen in the brackish water of this river.

On the other hand, Tom Salisbury, the chief executive of the British Canoeing Federation, has expressed concern about the “suitability” of this location for the competition. By pointing to the river’s twists and turns and its natural tides, he raised the issue of “sports fairness.” A point that many people in the canoeing community, citing it, say makes the Fitzroy River an “inappropriate” place to hold competitions.
