🔸Hana Novmann, a Member of the European Parliament and head of the delegation for relations with Iranian people in this parliament, announced that she has rejected the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy in France’s request for a meeting with Mohammad-Amin Nejad, Iran’s ambassador.
🔸Novmann, on Tuesday, the 7th of Mehr, wrote in a post of her response: “The door to my office is open to the people of Iran; not to those who are representatives and enablers of their suppression.”
🔸In her letter, she accused the Islamic Republic of suppressing opponents inside the country and pursuing critics, journalists, and human-rights defenders abroad, and said that diplomatic relations should not become a “shield” for the Islamic Republic’s extraterritorial activities.
🔸Novmann also referred to the recent decision by the President of the European Parliament to close the doors of this institution to diplomats and representatives of the Islamic Republic, and, while supporting it, said she is not willing to circumvent this restriction by moving the meeting location to the embassy or another venue.
🔸At the end, she emphasized that she will not meet with the ambassador of the Islamic Republic “either inside or outside the European Parliament,” and added that the door to her office will remain open to the people of Iran and those who are working for “freedom, democracy, and a free Iran.”
