Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s foreign minister, on Thursday, at a joint press conference in Ankara with Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, Syria’s foreign minister, expressed hope that negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the United States would end with “good news” and lead to the establishment of a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Fidan said Turkey continues to support these talks and hopes the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to navigation as soon as possible.

He added that the continued crisis in the Persian Gulf has caused countries in the region and the international community to shift their attention away from Gaza. According to Fidan, as long as negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the United States do not reach a result, it will be difficult to focus on the Gaza crisis.

Turkey’s foreign minister also said that Oman plays an important role in negotiations related to the Strait of Hormuz, and that the parties are considering a 60-day transitional period which, if managed properly, could lead to a lasting agreement. He added that agreements in principle have been reached between the parties on some issues, including the nuclear file.
