Hadi Matar, a U.S. citizen who is currently serving his 25-year sentence in prison for the crime of attempting to kill Salman Rushdie, has also been found guilty in a separate case involving terrorism charges; charges that could result in life imprisonment for him.

Hadi Matar, who is from the U.S. state of New Jersey, was found guilty on Wednesday in a federal court in New York on charges of aiding Hezbollah.

Judicial officials argued that Hadi Matar’s motive was a fatwa by Ayatollah Khomeini that was issued in 1989 regarding Salman Rushdie.

This award-winning writer testified during Hadi Matar’s trial and, while describing the attack, thanked a firefighter for saving his life by providing initial medical aid.

The jury convicted Hadi Matar of committing a transnational terrorist act and providing material support for Hezbollah. 📷PA
