🔻Gharibabadi explains the details of the Iran-Oman understanding on transit through the Strait of Hormuz

🔻Kاظم غریب‌آبادی, Deputy Legal and International Affairs Minister of Foreign Affairs, while emphasizing that even after the finalization of the agreement between Tehran and Muscat, the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened “from tomorrow,” discussed the details of this memorandum, saying: “Under this understanding, the entry route to the Persian Gulf will be from Iranian waters, and the exit route will be from Oman’s territorial waters, and on both routes, ships will pass through Iranian waters.

According to IRNA, the deputy foreign minister of Iran said that this route is ‘like a round-trip highway’ with a total width of about 7 miles.

Mr. Gharibabadi emphasized that the route agreed upon in talks between Iran and Oman is ‘temporary,’ and the two countries ‘must, within 30 to 60 days, negotiate a new permanent route to replace the previous maritime traffic scheme.’

Based on the deputy foreign minister’s claim, following this agreement ‘the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz will be closed.’ ‘Oman accepts that this route will be closed and the matter will be reported to the International Maritime Organization.

Mr. Gharibabadi said that if, at the end of the specified deadline for final talks—30 to 60 days—‘Iran’s requirements are not met, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed.’
