Germany’s finance minister announced that the country is working to allocate €50 million for the repair of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

According to Reuters, Lars Klingbeil noted that the proposal is currently before the German parliament and is expected to be approved by mid-next month.

Pointing to talks between European officials on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Bangkok, he said: it became clear that all the parties involved recognize their responsibilities and want to have a share in this effort.

In the same context, France’s finance minister, Roland Lescure, also said on Thursday that the G7 has collected €260 million so far for the repair of this power plant.

Lescure also noted that next month a donors’ meeting is expected to be held in Paris to raise additional financial resources for the repair of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Estimates indicate that the full repair of the plant requires €500 million.
