🔶 Germany is increasing the powers of its intelligence agencies
According to Tagesschau media, Germany intends to increase the powers of the country’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND). It is also planned that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which up to now has been described as an internal intelligence agency, will be developed into a “true secret service” with operational capabilities.
Based on this report, Friedrich Merz, the chancellor, as well as the German interior minister are pushing for these changes, taking into account that such a thing is required by the security situation. The reforms of the intelligence agencies that the federal government has drafted and approved in the cabinet also take this into consideration.
