Friedrich Merz, Germany’s chancellor, visited Kyiv on Sunday together with executives of German defense companies. The move was made in support of Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, amid intensifying Russian attacks on the cities of this country.

According to Reuters, citing officials from the German government, Merz is set to announce a package of measures that includes the release of one billion euros in military aid and 350 million euros to repair the energy sector.

Based on the same report, it is expected that an agreement will be finalized during this trip for joint production of various finalized drone types.

Andriy Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, welcomed Merz and Katrin Reiche, Germany’s minister of economy and energy, at the Kyiv railway station.

Russia targeted the Northern Bridge in Kyiv and a logistics center near the capital with drones early Saturday, and traffic on the bridge was halted. Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure have intensified in recent weeks.
