🔻French President Emmanuel Macron has not accepted the resignation of the interior minister after violent unrest.
Mr. Macron said that Laurent Nuñez should remain in his post and offer new solutions to deal with rioters as quickly as possible.
He cited the failure of security forces in planning and gathering intelligence as the cause of the violence.
The unrest took place after large demonstrations protesting rising cost of living and the worsening of public services.
An emergency government meeting is expected to be held in the coming hours.
In a televised address on Sunday, Mr. Macron again warned that those responsible for the violence will be held accountable under the law.
He said that a distinction should be made between protesters with legitimate demands and those who have carried out arson, smashed property, and looted.
