French police have used shields with stroboscopes for the first time to disperse aggressive protesters, the Le Parisien newspaper reported.

The shields can stop the crowd without the use of force. At the same time, the flashes may trigger seizures in people with epilepsy, Jerome Gigot, secretary-general of the Vigi-Police trade union, said.
