French authorities have ordered the evacuation of nearly another 60,000 people in areas around the city of Bordeaux. This means that, so far, more than 220,000 people have been forced to leave their homes due to fires in the forests of France and Spain. In the southwest of France, in the Gironde and Landes regions, about 200,000 people have been evacuated. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has called in the army to support efforts to contain the crisis. Meanwhile, Spanish officials have said that containing a large wildfire near Madrid is “beyond” the capacity of firefighters. The situation follows after three fires in the west of the capital turned into a major blaze.
