🔶 France sends troops and military equipment to Saudi Arabia
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, said in a televised interview on Thursday, September 24 (October 2), that his country will send troops and military equipment to protect one of Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities against Houthi attacks from Yemen.
According to him, following attacks by Yemen’s Houthi militias, “equipment and military forces” will be dispatched to help protect the strategic port of “Yanbu” in Saudi Arabia. Macron added: “To protect these facilities, we will send military capabilities, including personnel, radars, and defense systems.”
The French president emphasized that the nature of this assistance is “defensive and protective,” and said that the move does not mean involvement in the conflict.
Saudi Arabia’s major oil storage and refining facilities, as well as its strategic “East-West” pipeline, are located in Yanbu.
A Saudi military spokesman announced on Thursday, September 24 that six ballistic missiles that had targeted the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea coast and the city of Taif in the southwest of the country had been intercepted.
