Foryrri / The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has issued a health warning, stating that reports of a suspected case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region of Russia have been received, which has led to a death.

The embassy said it is monitoring reports of quarantine measures and the closure of hospitals in Irkutsk, and warned that the U.S. government has limited ability to help American citizens in Russia, especially outside Moscow.

The embassy also once again stressed its Level 4 recommendation of “do not travel” to Russia and asked American citizens currently in the country to leave immediately.
