Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven asked the Islamic Republic to stop arming and supporting the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

According to Reuters, the foreign ministers of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States said in a statement on Monday after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that this support is a “dangerous pattern of escalation” that undermines international trade and creates global instability.

The statement said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the continued and unacceptable attacks by the Houthis in Yemen and against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We call on the Houthis to immediately cease all military actions, threats and attacks on civilian shipping, and to return to the political process in good faith.”

On Saturday, for the first time since the escalation of fighting with Saudi Arabia in July, the Houthis targeted Riyadh with missiles and drones. The UN Security Council had also condemned these attacks on Friday.
