Following the IRGC’s attacks on ships and regional countries, including Jordan, and the retaliatory response by the United States, the UN Secretary-General expressed concern about the resumption of hostilities and called for dialogue between the parties.

Farhan Haq, the spokesperson for the United Nations, said that António Guterres has asked the United States and the Islamic Republic to halt the fighting and return to the path of diplomacy.

He noted that the UN Secretary-General is worried that if the parties do not return to negotiations, we may witness an expansion of the conflict, and it appears that this is what has happened in recent hours.

António Guterres hopes that the parties will return once again to diplomatic efforts, including the mediation efforts being advanced by Pakistan, Qatar, and others.
