The “FZ 1073” flight operated by Flydubai, which on Wednesday, September 30, departed from Dubai for Tel Aviv, was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a clash between two pilots—an incident that has become one of the most controversial aviation events in the Middle East in recent years.

The Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates announced on Saturday that the co-pilot of the flight intended to carry out what was described as a “terrorist attack” by using an ax that was present in the cockpit. According to the statement, he also tried to take control of the aircraft.

UAE officials say that during the clash, the aircraft experienced severe jolts and the lives of its 174 passengers were put at risk.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, claimed on Friday that the co-pilot had been influenced by the teachings of “Islamic extremism.” However, he did not provide any evidence for the claim.
