Firoozabadi, the former secretary of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace, says in an interview published by the Ham-Mihan daily about implementing filtering and the government’s efforts to build a national internet network: “We failed in building a search engine. It had costs, and in filtering we were guilty of excess and neglect.”

He also noted that during the construction and operation of a native search engine in Yazd, one of the institutions pressured for the words “haydeh” and “loozam arayesh zanane” to be removed from the search engine because “it promotes vulgarity and immodesty in society.”
