Firefighters battle rare Dutch wildfire through the night

Following the outbreak of a major wildfire in the Dutch province of Limburg on Monday (August 3), emergency crews worked throughout the night into Tuesday (August 4) to contain the inferno, which has forced evacuations and disrupted train services.

According to a report by Dutch broadcaster NOS, the blaze has already impacted roughly 100 hectares (247 acres) as flames quickly consume the forest canopy. Firefighters from multiple provinces have been deployed to combat the blaze, an incident considered highly uncommon in the Netherlands where large forest fires are relatively rare.
