🔻FIFA’s official page on X reacted to a report by the U.S. newspaper New York Post about Gianni Infantino’s efforts to win support from the U.S. government in order to keep his position as head of the institution, calling it “completely fabricated,” and wrote: “The President of FIFA in recent days has had no contact with the President of the United States or any of the members of his administration. This matter is completely fabricated.”

🔹This response was published after the New York Post, in an exclusive report, claimed that amid increased pressure for him to step down as FIFA president, Infantino has tried to preserve his position by securing support from Donald Trump’s government and, for that purpose, arranged a private meeting with Marco Rubio, the U.S. secretary of state.

🔹A source familiar with the matter told the New York Post: “Infantino wanted to speak with the Secretary of State to examine how football could become an instrument of U.S. soft power, but we all know that the real purpose of that conversation was only to keep his position at FIFA.”
