Kuwait, three years after signing a defense cooperation agreement with Pakistan, issued a decree converting the agreement into law.

Based on statements by Pakistani officials in Kuwait, the agreement creates a framework for cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries and focuses on areas such as military training, intelligence, logistical support, defense technology, research, and exchange of experience. It is also described as aiming to “strengthen military organizational ties” between the two countries.

Zafar Iqbal, Pakistan’s ambassador to Kuwait, told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida that the agreement had been concluded in June 2023 and that its approval process has now been completed with the issuance of this decree.

Mr. Iqbal also said that the agreement “is of a defensive nature and includes mutual understanding, professional cooperation, and capacity-building, and supports broader regional efforts to achieve peace and stability.”

Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s foreign minister, recently made an official trip to Islamabad.
