🔻Ehsan Haddadi, head of Iran’s athletics federation, in an exclusive interview said that two members of this country’s athletics team who were detained, tried, and “acquitted” in South Korea would return to Iran soon.

Mr. Haddadi also said that regarding two other Iranian athletes who are in prison, following the signing of the prisoners’ extradition agreement between Tehran and Seoul, the legal steps to return these two people have been set in motion.

The athletics federation head referred to two Iranian athletes whom, in December (Azar) last year, a court in South Korea had convicted with “short-term imprisonment” in connection with the charge of “sexual assault” of a woman in that country.

The prisoners’ extradition agreement was signed last week during the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and South Korea on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In Khordad (May/June) last year, it had been reported that South Korea had detained several athletes and one of the national track and field team’s coaches in connection with the “sexual assault” of a woman from this country at a hotel.
