🔶 Early end to Israel-Lebanon talks following renewed Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon

Talks between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States, on Wednesday, August 5 (14 Mordad), ended earlier than expected due to renewed Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.

A U.S. State Department official said that the meeting in Rome was halted ahead of schedule, at 3:30 p.m. local time, due to developments on the ground.

Another informed source also said: Yihya Leiter, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, “asked the Americans to stop the talks about three hours before the scheduled end of the meeting, after repeated disclosure of misleading information by the Lebanese delegation.” The source did not provide further details about the nature of this “misleading information.”

On the other hand, a Lebanese diplomatic source reported that the American delegation had requested a suspension of the negotiations in order to “conduct its internal consultations.”

All the sources confirmed that the talks are expected to resume on Thursday morning. However, a Lebanese diplomat noted that “major developments on the ground” could prevent the continuation of these sensitive, technical negotiations.
