🔸 Donald Trump, the President of the United States, on Friday 27 Shahrivar and shortly after the confirmation by Congress earlier this week, signed a bill that authorizes the imposition of new sanctions to pressure Russia over its war in Ukraine.

🔸 The law also extends sanctions related to Iran.

🔸 The law targets Russia’s energy and defense sectors, along with Vladimir Putin, the country’s president, and other senior officials.

🔸 It also targets the so-called Moscow shadow fleet made up of oil tankers used to bypass Western sanctions, and gives Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on major buyers of Russian oil and gas.

🔸 This could potentially include China and India as well, and would advance efforts to cut off revenue from the financiers of Moscow’s war.

🔸 The U.S. House of Representatives, led by Republicans, approved the package on Wednesday with 262 votes in favor and 159 against.
