🔻Donald Trump, president of the United States, and his wife Melania, at an arrival that reporters described as “unusual,” on Wednesday evening at the airfield at the Andrews military base near Washington, greeted Xi Jinping, president of China, and his wife Peng Liyuan on a red carpet laid for the ceremony at the aircraft landing site.

Brand Deboseman Jr. — a BBC White House reporter who attended Andrews Air Base airport to cover the event — says that very elaborate military ceremonies were prepared to welcome the Chinese president.

“I’ve covered many visits by foreign leaders, including leaders of allied countries and important partners of the United States in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, but the way the ceremony is being held this time is different from anything I’ve seen before.”

According to him, in official state visits, foreign leaders usually enter the White House through the north entrance and walk past a line of uniformed military personnel. Trump welcomes them at the West Executive Entrance of the White House.
