🔻The Daily Telegraph, citing informed sources, wrote that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, to prevent the removal of Gianni Infantino from his position as FIFA president, “will do whatever he can” after the controversy over the proposal to sell part of the World Cup’s shares.

🔹Infantino, after the failure of his $20 billion plan to privatize football’s commercial assets, has faced increasing pressure to resign.

🔹Reports published on Monday said that Infantino was expected to meet with members of Trump’s cabinet, including Marco Rubio, the U.S. secretary of state. FIFA and the U.S. State Department denied these reports.

🔹However, one senior U.S. government official, who is close to both parties, told the Daily Telegraph that after Infantino helped him in the United States to hold the “best World Cup in history,” Trump has taken an interest in him and wants him to remain in his post.

🔹The source said: “Gianni made a big contribution to hosting the best World Cup in history. The president likes him a lot. I’m sure he will do whatever he can to help him.”
