Colombia has officially severed its diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic, and has announced that the decision is based on concerns related to national security and the Western Hemisphere, the ruling regime of Iran’s ties to terrorist groups and an international drugs mafia, violations of human rights, and disputes over the nuclear program.

The Colombian foreign ministry says this action reflects the government’s foreign policy priorities in the area of national security and the Western Hemisphere, as well as the fight against transnational crime.

Based on this statement, Colombia’s trust in the Islamic Republic has been weakened due to documented human rights violations, the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, attacks on other countries, and preventing efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency to verify Iran’s nuclear program.
