CNN, citing informed sources, reported that Saudi Arabia’s defense minister, Khalid bin Salman, met Wednesday in Washington with JD Vance, the U.S. vice president.
According to the report, the Saudi defense minister’s trip to Washington was brief, and he left the United States after meeting with Vance.
One informed source told CNN that the meeting included discussions on various topics, including joint operations and Saudi Arabia’s response to attacks on this country’s infrastructure.
According to the source, Khalid bin Salman also had a message from Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince, which he intended to personally deliver to the U.S. vice president.
Another source told CNN that the Saudi defense minister explained Riyadh’s perspective on the ongoing war during the meeting.
According to these sources, Saudi Arabia’s response to the Houthis and Iraqi militia groups was intended to convey this message that attacking non-military infrastructure is a red line and will not go unanswered, even though Riyadh is still seeking to reduce tensions.
