CNN, citing a senior official from a Gulf region country that is in talks, reported that the chances of the United States and the Islamic Republic reaching an agreement by Friday, 16 Mordad, are “fifty-fifty”; this comes as Donald Trump had previously said that an agreement was imminent.

The official said that the Islamic Republic’s negotiating delegation does not include representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and that details of any interim agreement must be approved by that institution.

CNN wrote that Trump has reported “very good” talks with officials in Tehran, but at the same time warned that if the Islamic Republic backs out of the agreement again, the United States will “strongly” attack it.

Based on this report, the Islamic Republic continues to reject any direct talks with the United States and says that negotiations only take place with Oman and regarding the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. However, some diplomats believe that reopening this waterway could create the conditions for resuming negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
