CBS, citing informed sources, reported that cyberattacks on water systems in at least 12 U.S. states have been identified, which officials believe are linked to hackers affiliated with the Islamic Republic.

According to these sources, in some cases the attackers gained access to pumps, water valves, and remote-control systems, and some facilities were forced to operate manually.

However, U.S. officials said that so far these attacks have had no impact on the quality of drinking water.

The FBI, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Cybersecurity Agency had previously warned about unauthorized access to water and wastewater system infrastructure in several states, but they have not yet formally attributed these attacks to the Islamic Republic.
