CBS, citing informed sources, reported that cyberattacks on water-supply systems in at least twelve U.S. states have been reported, and officials believe these attacks may be linked to hackers supported by the Islamic Republic.

According to the report, these states include Michigan, Minnesota, Georgia, New Jersey and South Dakota, and in Minnesota in particular, more than 30 local water-supply systems have been affected.

CBS added that in Georgia, the Clayton County Water Authority, which serves 300,000 customers in the Atlanta area, said that cyber activity in the past month caused water pressure to drop and forced the agency to issue a boil-water advisory. However, service was restored within a few hours.

According to the report, some water companies and organizations have lost their remote control capabilities for critical infrastructure, which has forced operators to switch to manual mode. In several cases, hackers have been able to access pumps, control valves and water pressure remotely.
