🔶 Canada expels former deputy of Iran’s Ministry of Interior, Salman Samani
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that Seyed Salman Samani, former deputy and former spokesman of Iran’s Ministry of Interior, was expelled from the country.
He is the second Iranian government official to be expelled in line with the policy from 2022 that bans the entry of senior members of Iran’s repressive government into Canada.
According to the CBSA, prior to entering Canada in 2022, Samani had been a “career politician” in the Islamic Republic from 2007 to 2021. The agency wrote in its report about Samani: “Throughout his period of professional activity, the individual has demonstrated his loyalty and commitment to the regime.”
In 2024, the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) issued an expulsion order for Samani. The Federal Court also rejected his appeal request in a decision published this week. Sobastin Grammond, a judge of the Federal Court, wrote that Samani had told the Border Services Agency that he had “significant power and influence over government decisions”.
