🔶 Brazil’s president, in a call with Trump, called for resolving tariff differences

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, on Friday 30 Mordad (21 August), in a phone call with Donald Trump, his American counterpart, called for resolving the two countries’ trade dispute and described the reasons for the United States’ imposition of tariffs as “unfounded.”

In July 2026, the United States imposed two new sets of tariffs against Brazil; a development that, ahead of the October presidential election, has become one of the main themes of the election campaign.

Da Silva, who is running for a fourth and final term as president, said these tariffs harm the economies of both countries and that continuing negotiations is the best option for Brazil and the United States.
