Bloomberg reports that if the United States’ threats against the Islamic Republic are carried out in order to economically isolate it, Turkey could lose a significant portion of its natural gas supply.

The report refers to Iran’s gas exports of 7.7 billion cubic meters to Turkey last year, and says this figure is equivalent to 13% of Turkey’s total gas imports.

An analysis of data from Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority by the Voice of America shows that in the first half of this year, despite attacks on the gas facilities in Assaluyeh, Iran increased its gas exports to Turkey by 50% and brought it to 4.5 billion cubic meters.

Turkey imports natural gas from Iran, Russia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and liquefied gas from dozens of countries. Halting Iran’s gas exports does not have a significant impact on Turkey’s gas market supply, but the country would be forced to buy more expensive liquefied gas from other countries, particularly the United States.
