Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) announced that flights by Iranian airlines to this country have been suspended following new U.S. sanctions against Iran’s aviation sector.

AZAL said the decision was made in connection with the latest package of U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which includes restrictions on Iran’s aviation industry.

AZAL said: “Considering the current conditions, it has been decided that flights by Iranian airlines to the Republic of Azerbaijan will be suspended.”

In its statement, the airline said that the flights were stopped as of Tuesday, September 31.
