Axios website, citing U.S. and Israeli officials, reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency will soon remove nuclear materials stored at a secret site in Syria with the approval of the Damascus government; a move that follows months of confidential negotiations among the United States, Israel, Syria, and the agency.

According to Axios, the Trump administration prevented this case from turning into a security crisis by using its ties with the new Syrian government. The talks led to an agreement to transfer nuclear materials from the “Site 99,” where, according to U.S. and Israeli officials, the Bashar al-Assad government had stored materials related to its nuclear program, including the “Yellow Cake.”

Israeli officials said the materials are not suitable for building a nuclear weapon, but they could be used to make a “dirty bomb.” U.S. officials also said the operation is still ongoing and that the transfer of these materials is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
