Axios, in a report by Barak Ravid and citing two of its sources familiar with the matter, wrote: “Admiral Brad Cooper, the senior U.S. commander in the Middle East, has recommended that the bombing campaign around the Strait of Hormuz be halted, because, in his view, this operation has reached the ceiling of its effectiveness.”

According to these two sources, General Cooper assessed that continuing attacks in the current conditions would bring no further significant military achievement.

On Sunday, we reported that, according to reports, after consulting with the commanders and non-military advisers of his cabinet, Mr. Trump decided to stop air attacks on Iran—attacks that had continued for nearly two weeks before a pause.

According to two sources familiar who spoke with Axios, this recommendation reflected a shared assessment by U.S. administration military and non-military officials that military capability—and in particular a campaign based on airstrikes—has limitations in achieving its goals and cannot, on its own, fulfill all the desired objectives.
