🔻Atifeh Ramzani-Zadeh and Fatemeh Pasandideh, two former Iranian football players who had requested asylum from Australia after the Women’s Asian Cup, have received that country’s citizenship.

The two players attended a citizenship-ceremony event in the city of Brisbane alongside Tony Burke, Australia’s minister of home affairs.

Atifeh Ramzani Zadeh and Fatemeh Pasandideh were among seven members of Iran’s women’s national football team who, during their participation in the Women’s Asian Cup, received humanitarian visas, but the other five later changed their minds and returned to Iran.

It was said that the team could face consequences because it refused to sing Iran’s national anthem in its first match, a few days after the start of the war.
