🔻At dawn on 6 Mordad, Isfahan saw citizens protest the execution of two detainees from Dey 1404. The Iranian judiciary executed Abolfazl Sepahi Badjanjani and Amirhossein Safary Hoseinabadi, among those detained in Dey 1404.

In the evening of 5 Mordad and the night before the executions, reports circulated about setting up scaffolding in Aliqhani Square and contacting the families of several defendants for a “last meeting.” At the same time, images were shared on social media showing efforts to gather in this square and officers’ برخورد with those gathering.

The videos released show that many people were in the streets in protest of these executions. A witness told the BBC that “after the firing of tear gas and an aerial shooting,” protesters chanted “shameless, shameless.”

On 28 Tir, Iran also executed Eerfan Esfandiyari and Gol Mohammad Mohammadi, two other defendants in the “Aliqhani Square Isfahan” case. The reason given for these executions was “participation in the killing of four law enforcement officers in Aliqhani Square, Malekshahr, Isfahan.”

Reports indicate that 59 people are defendants in this case, and 12 of them have been sentenced to death.
