Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s oil company, says that precise satellite images and ship-tracking data are increasingly being used to target infrastructure and oil tankers.

Amin Nasser, CEO of Aramco, said: “Transparency tools should not be turned into ammunition,” adding that “technology has very many benefits, but it also comes with serious risks.”

The International Maritime Organization, a UN shipping agency, has estimated that since the start of the Iran war on the 9th of Esfand, around 91 incidents of attacks or events involving ships being targeted have occurred in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East region, and 24 seafarers have been killed.

Aramco’s oil facilities, among the world’s largest oil producers, have repeatedly been targeted by foreign attacks.
