🔻An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 shook the Chocó region in western Colombia this morning that, so far, has left 111 people dead and more than hundreds injured.
The intensity of this earthquake was so strong that the shaking was felt throughout Colombia as well as in the countries of Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama.
Images released from Colombia show buildings that have been turned into piles of rubble as a result of the earthquake.
The official death toll so far has been announced as at least 111 dead and 87 injured, and search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
It is expected that the number of dead and injured will increase, and the number of missing persons is also unclear.
Alejandro Eder, mayor of Cali, told Reuters that at least 20 buildings in this city have collapsed and people are trapped inside them.
