🔻America has asked European countries to use their diesel reserves to help address the global shortage that has led to higher prices.

Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury secretary, said that American farmers and businesses should not be the only ones to shoulder the burden of this crisis.

European countries have been discussing with one another how to deal with this crisis; those talks took place after Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said he may consider a ban on exporting American diesel.

The United States has threatened to limit diesel exports amid rising costs due to the war in Iran. This is at the top of voters’ concerns in the run-up to the important midterm elections.

However, there are concerns that releasing Europe’s fuel reserves, if tensions between the United States and Iran intensify as winter approaches, could reduce these countries’ reserves to a dangerous level.
