🔻Ali Zaydi, Iraq’s Prime Minister, says that the Popular Mobilization Units will be placed under the command of the Commander-in-Chief of Iraq’s Armed Forces as part of the country’s security structure.

Mr. Zaydi announced this in a statement on the occasion of “the end of the mission of the coalition forces and the achievement of full Iraqi sovereignty,” and thanked everyone who fought alongside Iraq’s Armed Forces against ISIS militants.

He, noting the end of the deadline set for “the complete disarmament of all non-Iraqi armed groups present on Iraqi soil,” emphasized that decisions about war and peace are the responsibility of the Iraqi government and that any military action inconsistent with this decision is “forbidden.”

The Iraqi prime minister also said that he will implement the law on the “Popular Mobilization Forces” or the Popular Mobilization Units, and will formalize the position of this force in the country’s security structure as an inseparable part under the overall command of the Commander-in-Chief of Iraq’s Armed Forces.
