🔻The U.S. government has revoked the visa of Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Brazil’s ambassador to the United States; a move that has led to further tension in relations between the two countries.

Based on information obtained, this action was taken in response to Brazil’s delay in confirming Daniel Perez, the option proposed by the White House as U.S. ambassador in Brasília.

A source in the U.S. government told BBC Brazil that the Trump administration will consider other diplomatic actions if the Brazilian government does not confirm the appointment of the new U.S. ambassador.

The source emphasized that Ms. Viotti has not been declared an “undesirable element” at present and has not been deported from the country. Under the current decision, if the ambassador leaves the United States, she must apply for a new visa in order to enter again.
