Ahmad Alavi, a university professor and economist, said that, pointing to the impact of sanctions and the Islamic Republic’s efforts to evade them, sanctions play an important role in the spread of corruption, but corruption in the Islamic Republic is a structural phenomenon.
He added that, in conditions of reduced foreign-currency revenues, the government prioritizes its survival and “soft and hard repression,” and as a result, the budget for public welfare, education, social security, and health and treatment becomes less and less.
