After threats of assassination in Iran, Trump covertly changed his aircraft before leaving the NATO summit in Ankara.

He arrived in Turkey for his first international presidential trip aboard a new 747-8 aircraft that had been a gift from Qatar.

For the departure, he boarded the old Air Force One publicly, in front of the cameras, and claimed he wanted to fly it “for old times’ sake.”

A few minutes later, he and several aides transferred from a hydraulic service container carried on an airport truck to a smaller C-32A aircraft (a modified 757 version) to stay away from the media.

The old 747 took off as a decoy with the Air Force One call sign. The reporters and White House staff who were on it did not know that Trump was not with them, and they had been told to keep the window shades closed.

Both aircraft landed minutes apart at RAF Mildenhall air base in the UK.
