🔶 After the PKK, will PJAK also lay down its weapons?

With the approval of a legal framework intended to provide the legal basis for implementing the disarmament process and dissolution of the PKK in Turkey, attention is now focused on the regional consequences of this process.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, in which the People’s Protection Units, YPG, formed the core, and which Turkey regards as the “PKK branch in Syria,” dissolved themselves last August. In this way, a political process began between Damascus and Kurdish forces in Syria.

But what will become of PJAK, which Turkey recognizes as the PKK’s branch in Iran?

PJAK, or the “Free Life Party of Kurdistan,” which in Turkey is assessed as an organization linked to the “PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party)” and the “KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union),” presents itself as an “independent political movement” and says it is not part of the process that has begun in Turkey.
