🔻After Gianni Infantino’s retreat from the controversial plan to transfer part of the commercial rights of the World Cup, UEFA, by sending an official letter, announced that it is reviewing legal action against the FIFA president and other individuals involved in this project.

🔹Based on a report by The Telegraph, in the letter that UEFA sent to Infantino on Friday, it warned that it is considering filing a lawsuit, referring the case to arbitration, as well as regulatory follow-ups regarding the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project. The letter asks FIFA to preserve all documents, correspondence, and electronic information related to this initiative and to refrain from deleting or destroying any evidence.

🔹UEFA emphasized that the proposal for FFE and the transfer of part of its shares to private investors are not compatible with football governance principles, and for this reason, the organization, along with other confederations and football stakeholders, strongly condemned it. It also warned that destroying or altering documents related to this case could be considered disposal of evidence and would carry legal consequences.

🔹In addition to Infantino, the names Joshua Kushner, Greg Maffi, JPMorgan Bank, and the OpenEconomics company were also mentioned in UEFA’s letter due to their possible role in this project, and they were also asked to preserve all related documents.

🔹Infantino, who had previously stepped back from implementing the plan to transfer part of the World Cup commercial rights under extensive pressure from UEFA, the confederations, and member federations, has five business days to respond to UEFA’s letter and declare his commitment to preserving all documents related to the case. It is not yet clear whether UEFA’s legal threat played a direct role in FIFA’s decision to drop the plan or not.
